Natural Wellness Summit for Animals

Natural Wellness, Holistic Animal Care, Talk To All AnimalsIn April I talked about natural wellness for animals at a Natural Wellness Summit for Animals, here in Essex. At the summit a superb selection of professionals came together to share with other professionals and the general public how they can help to treat their animal using only natural solutions.

I personally talked about chemicals in the home, natural cleaning products, animal diets that are as close to source as possible and Animal Communication. In this blog I’ll share with you a few of the points I covered  about toxins in the home, and of course give an overview of what you will be able to see on the film of the day.

Natural Wellness

I am sure if you are reading this you are interested in natural wellness for you and your loved ones too.  You may prefer natural remedies before reaching for pills, choose rest and mindfulness over western medicine (at least as a first port of call) eat a healthy, perhaps even plant based organic diet and minimize the amount of toxins you use in your home.

Perhaps you prefer homeopathy to the chemist, choose to bathe in essential oils and Himalayan salts, and like to walk barefoot outdoors.  However you approach natural wellness, you do it for you and your family and care about what you are putting into your body, and the environment!

So if you choose natural wellness for you and your family why not extend that to the animals you share your heart with?

Natural Wellness for you, Talk To All Animals

Perhaps you do already have a more natural approach with them too, in which case fantastic news!  If you are yet to make the change or have just had an ‘A-HA!’ moment about natural wellness for the animals too then read on.

As a Holistic Animal Care Coach and Animal Communicator I talk to animal guardians (animals do not like to be “owned” so I refer to us humans with animals in our care, as guardians) about how they can help to prolong the health and happiness of the animals in their care.   Here are some facts as to why it is so important for our animals that we take on holistic animal care the same as we do take care of our own natural wellness.

Animals do not detox their bodies the same way as humans do.

In fact cats and dogs liver works in a different way to us and makes them more susceptible to certain poisons.

When it comes to wellbeing, animals are no different to us humans – they also experience stress, anxiety and depression. Ailments in the body are created in the same way, so a poor diet, toxic environment and nutritional deficiencies have negative impacts on animals just like they do in humans.

  • All animals can be affected by methyxanthylates, but dogs tend to have more frequent exposure opportunities to the chocolates, coffee beans and cocoa mulch that contain them.
  • Because cats have altered liver metabolism (called glucuronidation), they metabolize acetaminophen poorly, making them much more susceptible to poisoning especially from human painkillers.
  • Dogs are susceptible to poisons from chocolate and fake sugar called xylitol. From natural things like grapes and avocados to the unnatural, such as human medicines and animal poisons as well as household items.
  • Cats are susceptible to poisons, from the flowers of lilies to household cleaners, medication for dogs, to human medicines, household insecticides and even glow sticks.
  • Horses are susceptible to poisons from certain plants in fresh or dried form such as ragwort, foxglove, deadly nightshade, privet, yew, and even buttercups (in large quantities) through to human medicines and animal poisons.

When you look at the bottle label of one of your ‘usual’ high street brand cleaning products you may be surprised to see some of the labels warning of toxic ingredients, irritants and ingredients that are harmful to aquatic life.  If that product is harmful to humans and to aquatics the chances are it is harmful to your animal too. This is why I highly recommend using much kinder cleaning products in the home, not only is it healthier for you and your animals, but when you consider where the toxic cleaning products end up, it is far kinder to the environment too.
